For those who have the credit the mortgage interest rates are at an all time low and it would be advantageous to get out and get quoted on a house payment you can afford that is way cheaper than renting.
Now don't get me wrong owning a home is not for the faint at heart. It is another responsibility you will have for the life of the relationship. Yes you will need to care for that home for the entire time you own it. That means spending money to keep it up. So BE SMART when purchasing a home.
There are literally tons of homes on the market. You can find ranch style, colonial style and bungalow style homes and then some in between. It would be best if you hone in on the school district you want to live in first. That's is you have children and or would like to start a family.
A priority for a husband & wife or a single person is obviously employment. Where you want to be in relation to your route to work. Many young professionals will either drive to work or ride the bus or rapid transit system. Whichever the case find out where you want to be then see what dollar amount those homes in that particular area cost.
Now you will understand whether you can reasonably afford the area you would like to live in.
Be reasonable with understanding your own finances. Savings equals income minus expenses; so what you spend takes away from what you can save. Buying a house means you need savings. Anything can go wrong with the house and you NEED money to fix it. The time for running up debt is gone. We have to learn to live within our means.
